FINALLY, an update!

I last posted on the 21st, so...

Thurs, Sept 22: City museum trip with the homeschool group!!!  And I didn't get a single picture. :(  It was tremendously fun, though! ;)

Fri, Sept 23: Lyceum

Sat, Sept 24: Housecleaning

Sun, Sept 25: Church, and a bonfire in our backyard with some friends. Prepare yourselves for a funny story...
Papa called Family #1 to invite them to a bonfire in our backyard, but they weren't home, so he left a message. After waiting a couple hours, we (various kids) pressured him into inviting some other people so we wouldn't be having a bonfire all alone! So, he called Family #2, but they weren't home, so he called Family #3, but they weren't home, so he called Family #4, but they... were home, and so he invited them over. Just as Papa was hanging up his cell phone from talking with Family #4, the home phone rang. It was Family #2, calling back, so he told them the details, and they said they could come. He hung up, and a minute later, the phone rang again. It was Family #3, calling back. He told them the details, and they said that they could come. A few minutes later, the phone rang again. It was Family #1. Papa gave them the details, and they said they would call back in a few minutes. A few minutes later, they did, and said they... couldn't come. :(
Mon, Sept 26: School, violin lessons for Sylvia and Gloria

Tues, Sept 27: Very full day...
8:30      School (all kids aged 6 and up)
2:00      First Lego League (Knut and Grandpa)
3:30      Work for Mrs. F (Sylvia and Cecily)
6:15      Bright Lights (Sylvia and Cecily)
6:30      SCCCHE leadership meeting (Papa and Mom)

Wed, Sept 28: School, Choir rehearsal at Zion for Papa, Mom, and Sylvia

Tonight various kids are sleeping out in the backyard in tents. We're going camping with the Travis Peterson family in a couple weeks, and they need to make sure the tents are fully functional. ;) I think that Cecily, Gloria, Bjorn, Knut, and Thor are sleeping out, but I'm not quite sure; they kept changing their minds. :) I know Cecily and Gloria are since they're not in the girls' "dormitory", and Bjorn wouldn't have missed sleeping out in the backyard the very first time he's allowed to for anything, but I'm not sure about Knut and Thor.

Tomorrow...

We are going to the St. Louis City Museum!!! Because of that and Lyceum on Friday, we've had only 3 days this week to do school... which means those 3 days were really packed full of schoolwork (at least for those of us that can't just skip it). But it's be worth it- it's going to be fun! There are 181 people from our homeschool group going (I think that qualifies us for the group rate, huh?), in addition to about 220 more homeschoolers from a different homeschool group!

Bright Lights!

Tonight was the first Bright Lights meeting of the semester! There are 49 girls in the group this year, split up into 5 small groups with 2-3 leaders per group. Obviously, there are lots of new girls since last year, so we had a lot of name-learning and getting acquainted to do. :)

No pictures; sorry. :( Allison has a bunch on her blog, though! I may not get pictures for the first few meetings; I'm going to try to work on getting to meet all of the new girls and learning their names first.

It's only a week late! :P

Um, there was a hog roast for the Zion congregation last Saturday. And I got a bunch of pictures, mainly of Indians.

I'll let the pictures (and captions) tell the story. ;)

Once upon a time, in a place (not so) far away... it was a very, extremely, intensely, immensely hot day.

A few children who were out in the heat at a hog roast, gobbling up the desserts and gulping down tons of water, decided to dress up as Indians. (Maybe their plan was to scare everyone into handing over the rest of the brownies.) Luckily they had a few daggers along, as well as their beaded belts, which they are never without. And with a few sticks for spears; maybe some improvised bows and arrows, their costumes were complete...

Or maybe not.

They still lacked one thing...

War paint!!

Are they really using...

DIRT?????

I guess it's just homeschooler "creativity".

The Clayton boys quickly decided to apply war paint as well.

I'm sure the rest of the congregation was thinking, Oh, these homeschoolers. They're so weird. Well, actually, they just laughed. But maybe, deep down inside, they were thinking something like that. Maybe.

In the meantime, a few sweet, innocent, calm, adorable little children were having a nice ride in the golf cart.

When they returned, they were greeted by war whoops and wild yells, which everyone else tactfully ignored.

They though the war paint was a GREAT idea! So they applied some.

"Why didn't we think of this before?"

Bjorn decided he wanted to look older... so he grew a beard. It didn't quite have its desired effect. He couldn't imagine why everyone kept laughing at him.

"I'm not sure it's such a great idea to eat with your face caked in dirt, Knut."
"Oooh, is that a slug bug behind him???" :D

Knut has got to be the only person in the history of the world to check his dirt war paint in the sideview mirror of a limosine.

And there was a beautiful sunset, and the dirt-caked children got to see it very well as they WALKED HOME, being WAY too dirty to ride in the limo. (Not really). :D

The End.

And in case you were wondering (I KNOW there will be "certain people" who will ask me "Did you put on war paint too???"), I did NOT. I'm so boring.

Please email me so I can send you the information. Thanks for entering! :)

Lyceum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lyceum started today!!! Summer break is just too long between Lyceum semesters. :) All of us were very glad to be back! Mom has great groups for both Choir and Lyceum Singers (Choir is younger kids; Lyceum Singers is Jr. High and High school.) There are 30 people in choir and 29 in Lyceum Singers!! That’s 2 ½ times the number we had in Lyceum Singers last year! The problem is- Mom only ordered 20 copies of the music. So… more has been ordered and will arrive shortly (we hope). ;)

Note: Sorry I didn’t post this earlier; our Internet was down for awhile. I wrote it on Friday; I just didn’t get it posted until today. ;) That's also why I haven't updated the Daily Family Insanity for a couple days. And... I know it says daily, but I think it's really going to be every other day. :)

Announcing the "Daily Family Insanity"

It's insanity to even do this, but maybe it'll make a few people laugh. :)

On the sidebar, just below Follow By Email, is the Daily Family Insanity. That's where I'll post something silly from our household- it could be a short video, it could be a couple silly pictures, it could be a conversation or joke; just something funny that I post each day. (Well, more like every other day.) It might be from that day, or from the past week, or it might be something from years ago. Here are three sample Family Insanities:

Conversation
(In a conversation about chocolate and how Knut loves it, Knut became dramatic and said...)
Knut: I was not born – I hatched, fully grown, from a cocoa bean.
(Thor liked this and decided it was true for him as well.)
Thor (repeating): I was not born – I hatched, fully grown, from a cocoa bean. And I must eat chocolate every day.
Knut: *gasping* Oh, no! Thor’s a cannibal!

Picture

(This is Knut upon being told that he may not have more chocolate
ice cream and that he must wash his face)
 Video
(Hmmm... there seems to be a theme going: Knut and chocolate.) :)

So anyway, I hope you enjoy... Daily Family Insanity! :D

P.S. If anyone has a better name idea, let me know. :)
