Ice Cream Social and Flower Show

Last night was a success! 21 people showed up at the concert, and we were only expecting 12! Bjorn was a little clown walking around with a chair on his head for a little while, but he actually sang his duet with Gloria, and when the shoulder rest of my violin fell off (as I was playing... the rest of that piece was not played very well) he ran and picked it up for me. So sweet! We didn't have a sound system, but since there weren't too many people we were able to make everyone hear. We're looking into buying sound equipment and a nice keyboard.

At the farmer's market this morning we were stopped several times by people who heard us singing. One lady heard us in church last Sunday, and the rest heard us at Papa's brother Noah's concert which was two days before we got this blog up.

We went to the flower show almost as soon as we arrived at the farmer's market and got to look around a bit. It was neat to see all the arrangements that won, some of ours included!

Program

We've got our program lined up and we're (sort of) ready for our first full concert tonight. We're excited and nervous. I'm not sure how Gloria and Bjorn will handle it. They're going to get bored and start to wander around. During our rehearsal the other night Bjorn found a box with a cellophane window in the side. He proceeded to put it over his head and walk around while the rest of us were trying to sing. It was pretty funny, and a good test of our ability to keep singing despite distractions. We failed! :0)

The songs we'll be singing are:

Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet
Seek Ye First
Everywhere I Go
Glory to God
I Was Glad When They Said Unto Me
O Susanna
Beautiful Dreamer
If You've Only got a Moustache
Onward Christian Soldiers
One Minute Madrigal
Be Thou My Vision
Morning Has Broken
At the Cross
Gospel Medly
Go Now in Peace

Flower Show

We're here in Billings until August 12 on vacation, visiting Grandma and Grandpa Peterson. Grandma is really into gardening, and so every year now we participate in a flower show that her garden club does when we're here in the summer. Grandma enters her beautiful flowers and some fruits and vegetables in the horticulture division, and I bring some of my dried flowers and supplies from home (it's always so hard to choose which ones to bring!) so I can enter some of the different classes in the design division. Then, too, there are little youth garden workshops that a few of the ladies in Grandma's garden club lead. The crafts are making projects to be entered in the youth category (last year it was candle rings and animals made from pine cones) so the other kids are able to enter their creations. There are also education exhibit classes; one for youth and two for adults. The youth one this year is 'an educational exhibit about butterflies', so Cecily, Thor, Gloria, and I were working on ours this afternoon. We all combined our efforts to make one large display on a tri-fold board with 'did you know' facts, the life cycle of a butterfly, facts about Montana's state butterfly: the mourning cloak, pictures, cute butterfly jewelry, and tons of stickers! Gloria also made a cute little butterfly out of construction paper to put at one top corner, and Cecily did one for the other top corner. Tomorrow, when it's all set up at the flower show, I'll take some pictures and post late at night after the ice cream social. Yes, we bring entries in tomorrow morning and the show opens to the public Saturday morning. Saturday there's also a farmer's market, and at 6:00 AM some hot-air balloons go up. I don't think any of us plan to go see them.

Ice Cream Social

This Friday our family is doing our first real concert, an ice cream social, at 1025 Evergreen Dr. in Billings, MT. We've sung at other concerts and in church services many times, but this is our first concert where it's just us. The concert will be at 6:30 PM and you're all invited!

Welcome!

Hi! We're so glad you stopped by! The Peterson Family Singers is a new adventure for our family, and we're not sure where it's going to lead. For now, we're just trying to understand and to do what God is telling us, and trust Him to take it from there. Please keep checking  back as we discover what His plan for our family is and how He plans to carry it out.
