Flower Show

We're here in Billings until August 12 on vacation, visiting Grandma and Grandpa Peterson. Grandma is really into gardening, and so every year now we participate in a flower show that her garden club does when we're here in the summer. Grandma enters her beautiful flowers and some fruits and vegetables in the horticulture division, and I bring some of my dried flowers and supplies from home (it's always so hard to choose which ones to bring!) so I can enter some of the different classes in the design division. Then, too, there are little youth garden workshops that a few of the ladies in Grandma's garden club lead. The crafts are making projects to be entered in the youth category (last year it was candle rings and animals made from pine cones) so the other kids are able to enter their creations. There are also education exhibit classes; one for youth and two for adults. The youth one this year is 'an educational exhibit about butterflies', so Cecily, Thor, Gloria, and I were working on ours this afternoon. We all combined our efforts to make one large display on a tri-fold board with 'did you know' facts, the life cycle of a butterfly, facts about Montana's state butterfly: the mourning cloak, pictures, cute butterfly jewelry, and tons of stickers! Gloria also made a cute little butterfly out of construction paper to put at one top corner, and Cecily did one for the other top corner. Tomorrow, when it's all set up at the flower show, I'll take some pictures and post late at night after the ice cream social. Yes, we bring entries in tomorrow morning and the show opens to the public Saturday morning. Saturday there's also a farmer's market, and at 6:00 AM some hot-air balloons go up. I don't think any of us plan to go see them.
