One happened in Lyceum Singers:
Mom asked, "Who knows when the Declaration of Independence was signed?" Of course just about everyone's hand went up... she chose a person at random to answer: "July 4, 1776." But then a couple girls jumped in and corrected, "Well, actually it was all spread out... some signed on July 2nd, some signed on July 4th, some signed on July 6th, some signed..." and a History debate broke out.Another funny thing happened on the way to Lyceum, when Knut was talking with his friend Johnathan about something funny/nonsensical. He was saying something about "going around the earth", and Mom said,
"Hold it; hold it!" Mom stopped the debate and was told, "Never ask homeschoolers History questions." Hmm... good advice...
Anyway, she did have a point to that question. ;) It turns out that on July 4, 1826, exactly fifty years after the official signing of the Declaration of Independence, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died... and on that very same day, Stephen Foster was born. Stephen Foster is our "Composer of the Semester". An interesting fact from History...
"Knut, use a big word! Like, 'circumnavigate' or something." So Knut corrected himself, in a very superior, educated tone: "...He will circumnavigate the globe, and..."
