Drama Club!

Picture yourself in a large room with a small, elevated stage area at one end and 30 kids between the ages of 9 and 17 sitting on chairs or on the floor at the other end. Two girls, aged 14 and 15, are trying to keep everything under control. The 15-year-old (that would be me) looks more like she's 11 or 12; the 14-year-old (my good friend Sarah) is much taller. The kids are laughing, being dramatic, and having a blast... either that, or they're really good at acting like they're having a great time. ;)

^That would be Drama Club!

We had our first "real" meeting today... auditions were last week. We have three hours for each meeting, and it wasn't long enough today!

Grandpa and Grandma Davis have been so wonderful as to let us use Shady Oaks for Drama Club. Every Friday from 2-5, their home is overrun by crazy, insanely dramatic homeschoolers!

We're doing two plays: A Little Princess (adapted from the novel by Frances Hodgeson Burnett) and The Great Cookie Caper (by James Bogoniewski; actsoflight.com).

Sarah

Sarah took A Little Princess to rehearse in the sun room...

...while I stayed in the playroom with The Great Cookie Caper. (no pics) :(

After about 80 minutes, everyone went to the kitchen for snacks, then prepared for games. One of the moms showed up with ice cream, so we took another break to eat it before it melted. After that, we played team charades. That was interesting. :D

Each person was supposed to write down three ideas for charades and put the slips of paper into a basket. One person from each team would then come up. Both people would read one of the slips of paper and act it out. Whichever team guessed first what the object/person/mood/character was would get one point. It was quite funny!

Eager volunteers

We had some very... creative... ideas, including the names of some of the members of Drama Club. :D

Thanks to Cecily for the pictures!! :)
